THE SCHOOL FESTIVAL WAS AMAZING AND SO MUCH FUN!!!!
Okay, so this school festival thing is two days long. First is the… I don’t even know what to call it. It’s the Trivia-Food-Talent Day? The second day is Sports Day! This post is about the former.
I want to explain a little bit about leading up to this magical day. The kids were so excited! I don’t think I have seen them this enthusiastic since I’ve been here. The week before and the week of the festival, the kids just wanted to practice their dances or organize different aspects of their booth. I, being the lovely teacher that I am, would give them free time to practice their dances. Actually, I knew it was useless to try and get them to pay attention to me, so I let them do whatever they wanted. They generally practiced the whole class, so I really didn’t mind. Let’s start with my day 😀 Also, I have pictures, but I did blur their faces. I didn’t feel like asking every student in the school if I could post their picture online. Some of the kid wouldn’t even know what I was asking…
Here is the schedule for the day:
9-10.30: Prepare for the day and instructions (to students)
12.30-2.30: Food and Games
3-5: Talent Show
This was pretty cute! We had all the students sit on the floor and line up in their classes. Each student was given a plastic folder and a dry-erase marker. Everyone starts out sitting forward. Two students are at the front reading the trivia questions. They read a question, then the students write their answer and hold up the folder. If they got the answer wrong, they have to turn around and face the back. Apparently the first two questions were super hard, because there ended up only being like 3 kids left over! So, they started over. It was pretty cute how excited they would get when they got the question right. There were several times during the game when they would give students chances to get back in the competition. The students who were already in the game would get so upset! I made three questions: 1)Who is the president of the United States? 2)How do you spell Saturday? 3)What state does Hillary come from? I was surprised later when there was a question about what kind of dog Remus is :D! I thought it was great. I don’t even really know what they were saying, but I was having a good time watching the kids have fun.
FOOD & GAMES
I don’t have any pictures of this… sorry. I was too busy making 50+ S’mores!! Each class had a booth where they sold snacks.
3-2: Some sort of rice hamburger patty??
2-2: Banana juice and spicy rice cakes
1-2: Grilled peanut-butter and jelly
1-1: Lemonade and popcorn
2-1: Chocolate covered banana, s’mores, and ramen
3-1: Cabbage soup?
Honestly, I don’t remember well what all the classes were selling. I didn’t get to walk around at all and see their booths. Some of the students would walk up to me and give me bites or sips 🙂
Some of the games they played were a lemon eating contest, a post-it note game, and a colored square game.
Lemon: The kids had to race to see who could eat a lemon the fastest
Post-it: The kids would get post-it notes stuck all over them and they had to race to shake them all off their body
Colors: There were like 25 colored squares (card stock type paper). One side was red and the other yellow. The kids were in two teams. They had 45 seconds to try and flip the cards over to their color. Whoever had the most cards flipped to their color when time ran out won!
So, this was my favorite part!! The kids had the chance to sing and dance. There were three categories? Singing, dancing, and class dances! I am going to put pictures up of some of my kids, even though they don’t show much since I blurred out their faces. I am just so proud of all of them! It is also good to note that I only have about 150 students.
It wasn’t until after that I noticed no girls sang! We had some individual guys and some groups. Also, almost all the songs were ballads. Only one wasn’t, but it sort of was. He mashed two songs together. Started with a ballad and ended with a rap.
Most of the groups dancing were girl groups. These girls practiced a lot and some even got matching outfits! The best group, and the winner, was the guy group. They danced to a SHINee song. It was pretty awesome!
Anyway, this was my day!! I will post Sports Day soon, but for now… this took forever to blur the pictures and things, so no telling when I will get to Sports Day. I am excited to show you though, since all the classes had their own matching outfits!! It was pretty cute. I know I have said this a lot, but this day was so much fun. The kids had a blast and I had fun too. It was a success!
